There are over 19,000 independent growers in the Champagne region, accounting for roughly 90% of all vineyard land in the region. With only 10% of the vineyard holdings, the larger Champagne houses and négociants must buy grapes from independent growers, some sourcing from as many as 80 vineyards to maintain a consistent house style year in and year out. Over time Champagne has become a brand, and a highly successful brand at that, emblematic of celebration and the coming of a new year. As a result of mass marketing, Champagne is France’s only region of strong brands and consumer-friendly simplicity; many consumers recognize their favorite brand through the color of the label, with little attention to the unique qualities the region, its vignerons récoltants-manipulants and their wines can offer.

Triage is proud to represent Grower Champagnes that focus on terroir and vintage expression, rather than an emphasis on a consistent house style that can be made year after year.
